A bit of a conversation to tie the different factors together including brainstorming how to improve the world of food. If you are looking for ideas and champions in the food world there are many ideas from this podcast and I highly recommend that you take a listen especially as we go some people were very quick on their feet with ideas of what to do with $500 000. Many of the initiatives in the food world function on very limited budget. Here are some wonderful organizations if you are looking to support your neighbour and find either a volunteer or financial ability to contribute. There were some unique ideas about wild foraging and farm picking ideas.
I was just noticing that apparently the volunteer economy may be the largest part of Canada’s economic sector… something to consider. One of the things (see this post) I was shocked was how incredibly kind random people were as we go – for just being you.
I remember a long time ago a conversation about the lost art of inviting the random person over for the cup of pea soup on the stove… and one of my early conversations with some people who really love food. (And having soup on the stove for when people are arriving at an unknown time especially on a road trip!)
So take a listen
Thank you
Irena
PS – A few topics have come up in the last few interviews so since this post is a bit shorter… if you are new to this podcast and relationship to food….. See more podcasts here for a broad way of thinking about health and food. I have not shared my thoughts on this (although I do have many). Please listen at your own risk if easily triggered by the topic of eating disorders. Please note throughout the podcasts I have asked – what is a healthy relationship with food! Mostly in a fun way… here are some of the more challenging aspects to consider as well.
Liesel Carlsson Dietitian speaks to orthorexia etc
Christine Johnson Dietitian around the 1hour – about pattern of food
Chef Michael Smith early on
Farmer and Nurse Colleen speaks to the severity of eating disorders – please listen at your own risk
Liz Da Silva reasons for choosing to be a larger size – please listen at your own risk if easily triggered.
There are many chefs and volunteer organizations who speak to food choices as well – I have not pulled all of them for this post!
If you think you may have questions about this – you can ask a dietitian or health professional their approach (including on weight) and request to see if it is a fit for you. There are polarizing perspectives – currently even within the dietitian profession.
We know that many people who are experiencing a coping strategy – no matter what is that person’s coping strategy (such as food) – it is important to find alternatives either other than food (or an alternative food) that can work for you – and this is normal. It’s that moment just before you eat that is important. May this podcast have some considerations!
Since being a health professional came up – please note that this is a fun backyard conversation on many different topics and being respectful that the guests are courageously sharing their own experience and expertise. There are many factors which affect food.
